No ban on students under 18 from writing WASSCE, NECO exams -Ministry

The Federal Ministry of Education has clarified that students under 18 can still write WASSCE and NECO exams, contrary to public misconception.

Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, explained that the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, was referring to the 18-year-old entry age into tertiary institutions, not the exams.

Sununu emphasised that exceptions exist for talented students, and a guideline is being developed to identify them.

He also highlighted the importance of literacy in fostering mutual understanding, peace, and socio-economic development, particularly on International Literacy Day.
