Ocean Surge Endangers Bayelsa Communities – Diri

The executive governor of Bayelsa state, Douye Diri, has stated that coastal Communities in the state are in danger of being submerged by the Atlantic ocean.

The state governor raised his concern on Tuesday, August 8, when he visited Odioama community, to assess the devastation from ocean encroachment.

This is according to a statement signed by the state Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah.

The governor lamented the effects of coastal erosion on the community and others on the banks of the Atlantic Ocean.

Governor Diri maintained that he personally visit the community to have first hand knowledge of the plight of the people.

However, he said that the government would start the shoreline project while awaiting federal government’s collaboration.
