One feared dead as suspected gunmen invade military checkpoint in Bayelsa

Pandemonium in Ogboinbiri community as suspected gunmen invaded military facilities in Southern Ijaw Local Government area of Bayelsa State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday morning when the suspected gunmen stormed the military base at Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) at the Seibou oil field.

It was reported that there was a fierce gunfight between the military and the suspected gunmen for several hours.

According to a report by Naija Tv, one of the suspects was killed and soldiers also sustained bullet wounds.
The deceased suspect was identified as Aaron.

It was learnt that the gunmen arrived military checkpoint with about three-speed boats at about 6:am on Sunday and immediately opened fire on the soldiers.

The source added that the military swiftly responded and killed one of the suspects.

“The soldiers shot dead one of the boys but one of the soldiers was wounded. The soldier is identified as Job and attached to the 13NA. and his rifle was taken away.”

However, an effort to reach the spokesman of the 16 Division of the Nigerian Army in Bayelsa, Captain Victor Odukoya was abortive.

Another account from a military officer who pleaded on the condition of anonymity confirmed the incident to newsmen, adding that efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen rifle and ensured the perpetrators are brought to book.
