Wednesday’s horrific event that claimed the lives of a nine-day-old infant and her 30-year-old mother left Aiyedun Quarters in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State in a state of despair.

The one-bedroom detached cottage next to the primary health centre within the quarters was tragically struck by an above-water tank.

Authorities in the region have reported that the mother of the dead child, Bose Sanusi, christened the child on Tuesday before the incident.

The newborn girl’s older brother and grandma, on the other hand, barely survived the fall since they were reportedly in the kitchen.

The baby’s and her mother’s lifeless bodies have now been removed from the debris and placed in the state specialist hospital’s mortuary.

Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the state’s police public relations officer, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the mother and her little daughter perished in the building fall.

According to her, an investigation has begun to figure out the reason for the collapse of the overhead water tank.
