Partial compliance in NLC and TUC strike in Zamfara
By Hannah Nathan, Warri
In accordance with the directive of the national leadership of both organizations, the Zamfara State chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have joined the nationwide indefinite strike.
The two labour union leaders explained to reporters in Gusau, the state capital, that they had chosen to join the indefinite strike in order to emphasize their demands.
According to the labour force, the strike was started in response to the financial hardship brought on by the elimination of the fuel subsidy and the recent attack on Comrade Joe Ajaero, the president of the NLC, in Imo State.
On Tuesday afternoon, it was noted that there was little adherence to the orders issued by the national headquarters of the TUC and the NLC. While some employees continued to work, others withdrew from the workforce.
When newsmen visited the Yahaya Gusau Federal Secretariat, it was noticed that only a few employees were entering and leaving the building.
After speaking with reporters, the state chairs of the NLC and TUC, Comrade Sani Halilu and Comrade Saidu Mudi, respectively, went to the State Secretariat, the Jibril Bala Yakubu Secretariat, and other locations to make sure that the order to down tools was followed.
