A Rights Group, the Centre for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade (CHURAC) has said that the pipeline surveilance contract awarded to High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo by the Federal Government of Nigeria is the right step in the right direction, adding that Tompolo being the foremost maritime security expert in the whole of the African continent is the right man to save Nigeria from the lost of her daily earnings in the petroleum sector.

The report which was dated August 24, 2022 was signed by the group’s Chairman, Board of Trustees, Cleric E. Alaowei, Esq on Saturday.

The statement which was titled:”OIL PIPELINE SURVEILLANCE CONTRACT: TOMPOLO IS THE RIGHT PERSON” said: “Nigeria’s crude oil production is on a steady decline due to the activities of illegal oil bunkerers in the Niger Delta. It’s regrettably bad that Nigeria cannot even meet up to OPEC’s quotas. Oil thieves have daily making billions of naira from the stolen crude, while the petroleum industry suffers economic sabotage.

“This is not the first time this contract is awarded to Tompolo. It was first awarded to him during late President Omaru Musa Yar’Adue’s time and he did well to help boost the oil productions. It’s on record that the Federal Government gained a lot when Tompolo executed the contract then. Of course, he will sure bring his experience to bear to execute the contract once again. NNPC Limited did the right thing by awarding the contract to him again.”

Alaowei explained that the award of the surveillance contract to Tompolo is in accordance with the Nigerian Content Development Law and also in tandem with one of the demands of PANDEF’s 16 point demands, stressing that the northern youths that are protesting against the award of the contract to Tompolo should look beyond their ethno-religious sentiment and consider its overall benefits to nation.

He narrated further: “Towards the tail end of Goodluck Jonathan’s Government and unto the early part of this present administration, opposition elements used propaganda to brainwash the present Government. The contract was eventually removed from Tompolo and awarded to someone who probably did not even know the color of the black oil. We all saw the surge of illegal oil bunkering activities at that period.

“Tompolo has been in the business of securing the nation’s economic assets since 2004 in collaboration with the security agents. There’s no other person who can execute this contract better than him. We commend President Muhammadu Buhari for considering Tompolo for the pipeline job against all odds.

“We know those who are protesting or threatening the government are being sponsored by the cartel who indulge in the illegal business. They know that their days are numbered. Tompolo we know, will soon block all the leakages where the thieves siphon our oil abroad without let or hindrance. We advice President Buhari and the Minister of State for Petroleum, His Excellency, Chief Timipre Silver to disregard the ranting of those dissident or delinquent elements.” He added.
