Police apprehend 8 suspects over killing of policemen in Delta

The Nigeria Police Force has made significant progress in the investigation of the tragic incident that happened at Ughelli, Delta State on 23rd February, 2023, where men of the Nigerian police force on a investigative mission were ambushed and killed, also on 26th February 2023, another set of officers on a rescue mission were ambushed totalled the death of six police officers while six others are missing in action.

According to a press statement signed by the Force public relations officer, MNIPR,MIPRA, FCAI, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Headquarters, Abuja on 30th March 2024, says intensive investigation efforts was reached and the Nigerian police had apprehended eight suspects in connection with the brutal ambush attack, 5 suspects were initially arrested shortly after the incident, and additional three 3 suspects had been apprehended in different locations. Following the statements and confession of the former arrested suspects, bringing the total number of arrests to 8.

“Meanwhile, the arrested suspects are currently in police custody and are make progress in the ongoing investigation. The Nigeria Police Force is committed to fishing out perpetrators that are responsible for this dastardly act and will be brought to book decisively in due course. The Nigerian Police is working assiduously to make sure that the suspects will in no time have their day in court, once investigations are concluded. He added

The Nigeria Police is deeply saddened by the heinous act of violence against the officers that are diligently carrying out their duty to protect and serve the community. The Nigerian police force condone the families of the fallen officers this difficult time, he said.

“We wish to reiterate that the perpetrators and masterminds in the killing of the officers in this extant case, and many others, have murdered peace, and none of them will go unpunished”, he noted.
