The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate operating in Ughelli and its environs, following a series of violent attacks on residents.

The arrests come after multiple complaints from the public over the activities of the gang, which reportedly attacked unsuspecting victims, inflicted injuries using cutlasses, and dispossessed them of their motorcycles.

According to a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), acting on credible intelligence, carried out coordinated raids between 6:30 a.m. and 9:10 a.m. on April 20, 2026, in collaboration with members of the Ughelli Kingdom Vigilantes.

The operation led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Surajo Atar (25), a native of Bigal Village in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State; Abba Musa (24), from Madara Village in Danbatta LGA of Kano State; and Babangida Yusuf (25), from Hamdullahi Village in Albasu LGA of Kano State.

Items recovered at the point of arrest include a cutlass and a black mask, believed to have been used in carrying out their criminal operations.

Further investigation led the suspects to guide police operatives to the Trailer Park area along Sapele Road in Warri, where a fourth suspect, Abdurasheed Shafiu (31), was apprehended. He was identified as a receiver of stolen motorcycles and reportedly confessed to purchasing the items from the gang.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, assured residents that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover stolen property. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The police also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing security operations.
