Prof. Benedict buries father, appreciates guests, dignitaries

Professor Benedict Binebai, a lecturer, and orator of Niger Delta University have finally laid to rest his beloved father, Chief Tom Michael Binebai (JP) during the weekend.

He equally appreciated dignitaries and personalities who graced his father’s funeral at Burutu despite the difficult terrain.

Until the death of Chief Binebai, he was the Olotu and Miekirigbolomowei of Iduwini kingdom Delta and Bayelsa respectively.

He was a Teacher, Headmaster, Administrative Officer, and a former commissioner representing Ijaw ethnic nationality on the board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Commission, DESOPADEC. Chief Binebai who was described to be a legend was buried on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at his residence in the Burutu community.

Chief Binebai was born on the 12th of December 1934, died on January 25, 2022, and was laid to rest at his hometown Burutu, headquarters of Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was learnt he was one of the most intellectual chiefs who make positive impacts in the Iduwini Kingdom and the Ijaw Nation in terms of education and other areas while alive.

The ceremony was engulfed with lots of dignitaries the likes of Amb. Dr Comr. Shedrack Agediga the Executive Director, Planning, Research, and Statistics (PRS), Chief Sheriff Mulade National Coordinator/CEO CEPEJ, Comr. Austin Ozobo SA to Governor Okowa on Political matters, Mr Ekanpou Enewaredideke, SA to Governor Okowa on political matters, Dr Ebi Yeibo, a poet and lecturer in NDU, Prof. Abraye, Hon. Tom Willy, members of Delta Ijaw Comrade Community, media professionals, academic professors and many others.

Among Leaders and stakeholders who spoke to Congress newspaper described late Chief Binebai as a rare icon, stressing that the Ijaw nation had lost a great leader.

Live Music band display was done by Chief Allen Albor and Bestman May. However, the family of chief Tom Michael Binebai (JP thanked guests, dignitaries, well-wishers, friends, political associates, traditional Chiefs, government functionaries and others for their support and encouragement.
