Rivers State is gripped by tension as two factions of the State House of Assembly hold parallel sessions amid heavy security presence.

Lawmakers aligned with Speaker Martin Amaewhule and those loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, are meeting in separate locations.

The Oko-Jumbo faction, which recognizes Fubara’s leadership, has summoned a commissioner nominee for screening, while the Amaewhule faction, comprising pro-Wike lawmakers, will likely address the Court of Appeal’s recognition of their membership.

The political crisis in Rivers State deepens, with former lawmakers urging peace and adherence to the rule of law. They reject calls for a state of emergency and emphasize the importance of unity, peace, and progress in the state.
