The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has announced the implementation of the “No Work, No Pay” policy in response to the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) seven-day nationwide warning strike. NARD called for the strike over the continued detention of its kidnapped member, Dr. Ganiyat Popoola-Olawale.

The ministry expressed disappointment and frustration with NARD’s decision, stating that it disregarded ongoing discussions and pleas to resolve concerns and maintain industrial peace. However, the ministry emphasized its commitment to dialogue and addressing the concerns of resident doctors.

The “No Work, No Pay” policy aims to ensure that essential healthcare services are not disrupted, while also urging resident doctors to return to the negotiation table to find lasting solutions to the challenges facing the healthcare sector.

The ministry highlighted its efforts to improve the welfare and safety of healthcare workers, including resident doctors, and its collaboration with security agencies to secure the rescue of Dr. Popoola-Olawale.

The standoff between the government and resident doctors continues, with the ministry remaining open to meaningful dialogue and committed to working towards a fair and lasting resolution.
