Some suspected gun-toting hoodlums on Sunday night set ablaze the Oguta High Court located in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to the report, the gunmen stormed the court at about 11.30pm and razed the facility, which is located inside the local government headquarters.

A resident who doesn’t want his name on print for security reasons, confided with newsmen that the Magistrate’s Court Registry, Appeal Court Record Office, File Room, Secretary to the High Court Judge’s office, office of the High Court bailiff, the chamber of the High Court judge were set on fire.

“The Magistrate Court Registry, Appeal Court Record Office, File Room, Secretary to the High Court Judge’s office, and office of the High Court Bailiff were burnt while the chamber of High Court Judge was partly razed. The whole of the block has cracked and no reasonable human being will ever go near the facility.”, the source added.

The Sole Administrator of Oguta LGA, Ofili Ijioma, posited that the incident had been reported to security agents.

Ijioma gave assurance that investigations would unravel the faces of the attackers.

This came on the heels of 10 days after the judge in charge of Ejemekwuru Customary Court, Nnaemeka Ugboma, was murdered while presiding over a court session.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the police in the state, Henry Okoye, said that he was still awaiting information from the area.

Recall, on Saturday 2022 gunmen set ablaze the building of Imo State high court in Orlu, reportedly burning part of the structure housing sensitive documents.
