Suspected gunmen have reportedly killed three police officers as they launched an unprovoked attack on Adavi Police Divisional headquarters in Kogi state in the morning hours of Saturday.

In a statement by Edward Ebuka, the commissioner of Police confirmed the attack through the command’s spokesman William Ovye Aya.

However, the commissioner of Police Edward Ebuka described the attack as painful and callous. Egbuka said the three officers who died during the gun duel were taken unaware by the gunmen.

“In the early hours of Saturday, the command received a report of an unfortunate incident at the Adavi Police Division, the station is under attack by some hoodlums.

“They shot sporadically but were trolled by our men and operatives of the quick response unit who are on special operations at the Adavi Local Government Area Kogi State.

“It was so unfortunate that the command lost three of its officers to the gun duel, in the process the hoodlums fled with gunshot wounds as they could not get access into the station,” he added.
