Tanker crashes on 3vehicles, kills one, injures 5 persons

A petroleum tanker was said to have crashed on a bus and 2 other vehicles, killing one person and seriously wounding about five occupants in the vehicles.

The fatal road accident occurred around 2:10pm at Immigration Junction, Awka, along Awka- Enugu expressway, Anambra State on Saturday.

It was learnt that it was three vehicles that were involved in the accident , an Iveco Tanker, a white Mistibushi bus with registration number; XA 482 MKH and a blue private Peugeot Salon car with the registration number; AJG 652 AA.

A source said the tanker lost control due to brake failure and crashed on the bus and the private car, killing one and wounding about five occupants.

When contacted, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi said the corpse has been deposited at the morgue while the injured are receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

According to him : “A fatal crash occurred at Awka- Enugu expressway today 28th August 2021 at about 14:10hours.

“The cause of the fatal crash was attributed to brake failure. The brakes of the tanker failed and rammed into the bus and private car.

“Six people comprising 4 male adults, and 2 female adults were involved in the crash. The corpse of the victim has been deposited at AMAKU Morgue after being confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“FRSC Officers and men are on the ground managing traffic, and ensuring obstructions caused are cleared.”
