5 Ijaws conveying corpse allegedly die in fatal road crash

Tragedy as about five family members of Ijaw origin in Delta allegedly died in a ghastly auto crash involving a car in which they were conveying a corpse in a Benin/Sapele expressway during the weekend.

The incident reportely occurred when the victims were conveying a deceased family member who was in Lagos mortuary for burial in Ayakoromo town in Burutu local government area of Delta state.

A source said the vehicle carrying the corpse collided with an oncoming vehicle, and the car conveying the corpse somersaulted and veered into a river.

The source said the corpse and some family members who died were trapped in river for some days before they were evacuated together with the corpse, and others including a couple fell of the car and were crushed to death in the process.

However, the name of the deceased family members who involve in the ghastly crash are yet to be made public.

Equally, the cause of the fatal crash is not know at the time of filing this report.
