Tragedy as auto crash claims 16 lives, injures 17 in Ibadan

Tragedy struck on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as a devastating auto crash claimed the lives of 16 people and left 17 others injured. The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) confirmed the incident, which occurred on the Ojoo-Iwo Road axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

 

According to the FRSC spokesman, Mr. Mayowa Odewo, the accident was caused by brake failure of a Mack truck with registration number AKM 548 ZY. The truck collided with several vehicles, including a Nissan commercial bus, a Nissan Micra taxi, and a private Honda Accord SUV.

 

The accident involved 35 people, comprising 14 male adults, 10 female adults, six female children, and five male children. Only two people escaped without injuries. The FRSC has taken the injured victims to the hospital and handed over the corpses to the police.

 

The vehicles involved in the accident have been taken to Irepodun Police Station, along Agbowo-Ojoo Road, by the police. Unfortunately, no victim was saved by seat belts or other defensive gadgets.

 

This tragic incident highlights the importance of road safety and the need for vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on journeys.
