Comrade Ozobo Austin, President of the Ijaw People’s Development Initiative (IPDI), has sent a stern message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasising the necessity of the planned protest amidst widespread hunger and starvation across the nation.

Ozobo, a leading activist in Niger Delta stressed that the current economic hardship has pushed many Nigerians to the brink of survival, leaving them with no choice but to take to the streets in demand of urgent action from the government. He highlighted the alarming rates of poverty, unemployment, and food insecurity, which have resulted in countless deaths due to starvation.

The IPDI president accused the government of failing to address the plight of Nigerians, despite repeated promises and assurances. He emphasised that the protest is not a political ploy but a desperate cry for help from a population on the verge of collapse.

Ozobo urged President Tinubu to take immediate action to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians, warning that further inaction would only exacerbate the crisis. He called on the government to engage with protesters and work towards finding sustainable solutions to the economic woes facing the country.

The IPDI president’s statement comes as the planned protest, scheduled for August 1, gains momentum across the nation. Many Nigerians have expressed support for the protest, citing the need for drastic change in the face of unprecedented hardship.
