Three prominent Ijaw groups – the Delta Ijaw Watch Network (DIWN), Delta Ijaw Oil Producing Communities Front (DIOPCF), and Niger Delta Transparency Network (NDTN) – have given Hon. Spencer Okpoye, Commissioner representing Ijaw nationality at DESOPADEC, a resounding thumbs up for his innovative leadership and open-door policies.

In a joint statement released to the press in Warri, Delta State, by Comrade Emury Bekenawei, president Niger Delta Transparency Network, NDTN, Comrade Stephen Asaba-ase, Spokesman, Delta Ijaw Watch Network (DIWN), and Dr Perez Ebibaikefie, chairman, Delta Ijaw Oil Producing Communities Front (DIOPCF), the groups expressed their confidence in Okpoye’s ability to drive positive change. His leadership style has been hailed as a breath of fresh air, fostering collaboration and progress in the region.

However, Okpoye’s impressive track record as Commissioner of DESOPADEC had previously earned him recognition.

The groups described Okpoye as youth friendly, a servant leader, accommodating, a free giver, humble, detribalised and ready to solve problems among his people.

According to them, Okpoye had initiated several people-oriented and community based projects in Ijaw oil producing communities in his few days in office.

The statement urged Delta Ijaw youths, leaders and stakeholders to join hands with him to enable him provide more community based developmental projects and more empowerment for the communities under the purview of the commission.

However, with this vote of confidence, it’s clear that Okpoye’s efforts are resonating with key stakeholders in the Ijaw oil producing communities in the state.
