A political pressure group under the umbrella of the APC South South Youth Council (APC SSYC) has called on president Bola Ahmed Tinubu Tinubu to prevail on the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to stop reckless talks could incite violence in Niger Delta.

In a statement by its national coordinator Comrade Preye Tambou said they were writing to bring to the president’s attention of the growing concerns about the actions and statements of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, citing that Wike’s recent behaviour and utterances had been deemed reckless and potentially damaging to Tinubu’s administration and 2027 reelection bid.

The statement which was titled “REINING IN WIKE’S RECKLESSNESS, REBUILDING TRUST” said Wike’s derogatory remark and falsehood referring to the Ijaw people as a “minority of minorities” on live television had sparked outrage among the Ijaw people, leading to widespread condemnation from leaders and groups, including the Ijaw National Congress (INC) and the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), citing that the Kalabari women, a subgroup of the Ijaw, have been protesting against Wike’s visit to their community, viewing it as an insult after his hurtful comments.

The statement reads, “I am writing to bring to your attention the growing concerns about the actions and statements of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. His recent behaviour and utterances have been deemed reckless and potentially damaging to your administration and 2027 reelection bid.

“Wike’s derogatory remark and falsehood referring to the Ijaw people as a “minority of minorities” on live television has sparked outrage among the Ijaw people, leading to widespread condemnation from leaders and groups, including the Ijaw National Congress (INC) and the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC). The Kalabari women, a subgroup of the Ijaw, have been protesting against Wike’s visit to their community, viewing it as an insult after his hurtful comments.

“Despite warnings from traditional rulers, Wike proceeded with his plans, leading to tensions, teargasing and clashes with protesters. His actions have not only offended the Ijaw people but also raised concerns about his recklessness and potential damage to your administration and 2027 reelection bid.

“Former Senate President Adolphus Wabara has urged you to caution Wike, stating that his actions could plunge Rivers State into a needless political crisis. I strongly advise you to take immediate action to address Wike’s actions and prevent any further damage to your administration.

“Nyesom Wike’s recent antics have been nothing short of incendiary, sparking widespread outrage and condemnation. His derogatory remark referring to the Ijaw people was not only hurtful but also irresponsible.

“As you have previously commended Wike for his leadership and commitment to transforming Abuja which acknowledged in one of our publications, it is essential to find a balance between acknowledging his contributions and reining in his reckless behavior.

“As the National Coordinator of the APC South South Youth Council (APC SSYC), I am compelled to express my deep frustration and disappointment with the state of affairs in our country. Despite our unwavering support for your administration, we have witnessed a consistent failure to address the pressing issues affecting the APC youth and Nigerian youths at large.

“I urge you to re-evaluate your appointees and ensure that they are truly committed to serving the people, not just their personal interests. We need genuine leaders who will put the needs of the youth above their own.

“Mr. President, it is imperative that you take immediate action to address these challenges. The youth are the future of our nation, and their concerns cannot be ignored”, the group added.
