Amnesty International has condemned the Nigerian government for its failure to arrest those responsible for the brutal killings at a mosque in Na’alma village, Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State. The rights group said the government’s persistent inaction has emboldened armed groups, leading to more deadly attacks across the region.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Amnesty International described the killings as “a direct result of the government’s negligence and lack of accountability.” The organisation noted that gunmen stormed the mosque during early morning prayers, opening fire on worshippers and killing several people. Many others were injured or abducted.

The global human rights body criticised the authorities for focusing on rhetoric instead of concrete action, adding that victims and their families continue to suffer without justice. It urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to launch an impartial investigation, bring the attackers to justice, and strengthen community security in the North-West.

Residents of Malumfashi and neighbouring villages have since fled their homes in fear of further attacks, calling on security forces to increase patrols and protect civilians from the recurring wave of violence.
