Tinubu Declares State of Emergency on Security Training Institutions
By Diafa Doubra,
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a state of emergency on all security training institutions across Nigeria, as part of a sweeping reform aimed at enhancing the capacity and professionalism of the country’s security forces.
The President made the declaration during a high-level security meeting held in Abuja, stressing that the government can no longer tolerate inefficiency, outdated methods, and lack of coordination among training facilities. Tinubu said the decision followed a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s security architecture, which identified poor training standards as one of the major causes of operational lapses.
According to the Presidency, the move will include restructuring existing academies, upgrading equipment and infrastructure, and introducing modern training techniques aligned with global best practices. The reforms are also expected to improve intelligence sharing and inter-agency collaboration in tackling terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry.
Security experts have lauded the decision, saying it marks a bold step toward addressing Nigeria’s long-standing internal security challenges.
