‘Nigeria Is At War’ — Senator Olamilekan Declares, Explains Why
By Micheal Chukwuebuka
Senator Olamilekan has urged all lawmakers and citizens to take collective responsibility for national security, while commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in ensuring the safety of Nigerians.
In his remarks on the Senate floor, the senator clarified perceptions about Senate proceedings, saying, “At no point have you guided any senator from saying anything he or she wants to say on the floor of the Senate. I’ve not witnessed one, I’ve not seen one and I’ve not heard of one that needs to be cleared.”
He further stressed the unity of the Senate on matters of security, noting, “At no point has any senator either from either of the aisle have been on any side of this particular motion that’s before us. We’re on the same page; we all believe that the security of this nation is sacrosanct and every one of us are concerned on security as far as the country is concerned.”
Senator Olamilekan also commended President Tinubu’s intervention in recent security incidents, stating, “I want to commend the president and I believe he’s doing everything within the law to ensure security,” highlighting the release of 38 Eruku community members in Kwara State and students in Kebbi State.
Describing the current security challenges in Nigeria, he said, “Nigeria is at war because the terrorists and others are not known to our system. They’re not Nigerians; they’re coming into this country to disrupt the peace of our country and we can also finger international conspiracy because you’ll see some videos of helicopter dropping arms in some van. Where’s the helicopter coming from, who owns them?”
He lamented the rise in insecurity, noting, “As at 2024 we had the lowest number of kidnapping and insecurity in Nigeria, and by November 2025 everywhere is agog.”
Concluding his remarks, Senator Olusegun urged collective action, saying, “It’s the collective responsibility of everybody to make sure there’s security and I mean it.”
