N’Delta Activist Blasts Delta Councilors, Describes Them As Cowards, Betrayal of Mandate Over Funding Governor’s 50M Party Form
By Monday Peters, Abuja
A rights activist, Amb. Comrade Ozobo Austin has accused councillors across Delta State’s 25 Local Government Areas of “betraying the mandate” of their constituents after allegedly contributing N50 million to purchase governorship nomination forms for the incumbent governor.
The activist, in a statement made available to journalists on Friday, described the move as a desperate bid to secure second term tickets and likely State appointments for themselves” rather than an act of loyalty to the governor, who was described as a billionaire enjoying all deltans money.
In the strongly worded statement, the activist condemned the councillors’ action, saying it failed to reflect the economic realities of grassroots communities.
“You betrayed the mandate given to you. Your people deserve the N50 million you wasted in paying for forms for a governor who is a billionaire and enjoying all our money,” the statement read.
“You were voted to represent your people and not to represent yourself and the governor of Delta State. Your action never portrayed love for the governor but a desperate move to secure a second term for yourselves and for likely giving a State appointment.”
The activist further challenged the councillors to a public debate on their stewardship, questioning their achievements since assuming office nearly two years ago for their respective areas of representation.
“I challenge you to come for public debate with me on what you have done for your people as a council for the two years you have been in office,” the statement added.
However, the Delta State has 25 LGAs with 466 councillors elected in the 2024 local government polls. The current governor is serving his first term, which ends May 29, 2027.
