Again, Another Ijaw Group Applauds Tinubu, Oborevwori For Restoring Peace In Warri

•Mulade Advocates Peaceful Coexistence Among Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo Communities

The Ijaw Political Grassroots Development Movement (IPGDM) has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for their proactive efforts in resolving the long-standing ward delineation dispute in Warri Federal Constituency and surrounding communities.

In a statement jointly signed by Comrade Sheriff Mulade, PhD, Chairman of the group, and Hon. Omoun Ebi, Secretary, the Ijaw socio-cultural organization expressed appreciation to the various ethnic nationalities in the area for demonstrating commitment to peace, unity, and cooperation in the overall interest of development.

The group particularly called on stakeholders from the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo ethnic groups to strengthen peaceful coexistence and sustain the atmosphere of harmony currently prevailing in the area.

According to the statement, lasting peace in Warri remains essential to the growth of the oil and gas industry and the socio-economic development of Delta State. The group noted that Governor Oborevwori’s administration has consistently championed peace and unity and urged all parties to support efforts aimed at maintaining stability in the region.

IPGDM stressed that community leaders, stakeholders, and residents must work closely with government at all levels to safeguard peace and create an enabling environment for development, investment, and economic growth.

The organization further emphasized that as indigenes of Warri Federal Constituency, the people must move beyond recurring disputes and embrace dialogue as the preferred means of resolving differences. It noted that the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo peoples have shared centuries of coexistence through intermarriage, cultural interaction, and communal living, making peace and mutual understanding imperative.

The group maintained that no ethnic nationality stands to benefit from conflict, urging residents to focus on building a prosperous future for coming generations and advancing the development of Warri, widely regarded as the commercial hub of Delta State.

IPGDM also appealed to traditional rulers across Warri Federal Constituency to play leading roles in promoting unity and reconciliation among their people. The group described the monarchs as custodians of culture and tradition whose leadership remains critical to sustaining peace and fostering development.

While acknowledging the influence and respect enjoyed by the traditional institutions, the group urged the royal fathers to continue engaging one another constructively and work collectively towards a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Warri.

The organization again commended President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori for their timely intervention and strategic engagement with key stakeholders, which it said helped to defuse tensions and facilitate the peaceful resolution of the ward delineation dispute.

IPGDM expressed optimism that with continued dialogue, cooperation, and responsible leadership, Warri and its environs would witness greater peace, unity, and sustainable development.
