Group Says Ijaws, Itsekiri Marginalised, Govt Favours Rich, Urhobo

By Osaro Michael, Benin

The Ijaw People’s Development Initiative, IPDI has accused Delta State Governor, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, of running a tribalistic and non-inclusive administration, added that he shouldn’t be deceived by praise singers and eye service aides and appointees in the government.

In a statement issued by its National President, Comrade Ozobo Austin, the group alleged that the Ijaw and Itsekiri ethnic groups have been deliberately sidelined in appointments and development projects under the present government.

IPDI described Gov. Oborevwori as the “most clueless governor Delta has ever produced,” claiming he prioritized few road and bridge projects for his own ethnic group above critical areas like healthcare, transportation, human capital development, industrialization, power generation, job creation, and inclusive appointments.

The group further alleged that the administration operates as a blend of Plutocracy, Oligarchy, Aristocracy, Autocracy, and Kleptocracy, where policies mainly benefit the rich, powerful, and politically connected while ordinary citizens get little.

“Roads and bridges serve the rich who own cars. The needs of the poor and average Deltans go beyond just roads and bridges,” Ozobo said.

He added that the Oborevwori government is only benefiting a few wealthy individuals and the governor’s kinsmen through lopsided appointments. “This shows the poor level of governance in the state” he stated.

Ozobo also noted that despite increased federal allocation, subsidy removal savings, excess crude, high IGR, and 13% derivation funds to Delta, the people are still grappling with abject poverty and poor development.
