Angry protesters block Akure highway over abduction of residents

Residents of the Ajebamidele area of Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital have blocked the busy Ado-Ikere-Akure highway to protest the kidnap of four residents by gunmen.

The protest paralysed commercial activities, as motorists and travellers were stranded for over three hours.

Congress report that the kidnapping incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Goshen Land Community in Ajebamidele when suspected gunmen stormed the area and kidnapped four residents.

The protesters narrated that a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Falomo and other two yet to be identified were kidnapped on Tuesday.

Source said that Mrs. Falomo was trailed to her residence by the suspected kidnappers armed with AK-47 rifles before she was kidnapped alongside her husband who came out on a rescue mission.

Angry protesters lamented the level of insecurity in the land and called on both federal and state governments to urgently do something to save them from criminals.

The chairman of Goshen Landlords Association, Mr Samuel Fasua, called on the attention of government to the incident for the authorities to do something urgent to save the beleaguered residents.

A resident, Engr. Emmanuel Ayodeji, who disclosed that his sister-in-law was among the kidnapped victims, said that the abductors have called the family to demand for a ransom of N10 million.
