Anioma State: Moves to recall Ned Nwoko Thickens
By Peters Monday, Abuja
The controversy surrounding the proposed creation of Anioma State has intensified, with a group called The Ndokwa Renaissance threatening to recall Senator Ned Nwoko, the sponsor of the bill, if he fails to withdraw it. The group claims that Nwoko did not consult with the people of Delta North before proposing the bill, which has passed its first reading in the Senate.
The monarchs of the Delta North senatorial district have called for dialogue and wider consultation on the issue, emphasising the need for unity and cohesion among the Anioma people. They urged Senator Nwoko and other stakeholders to engage with the people to determine their wishes, rather than pursuing personal interests.
The monarchs also cautioned against polarizing the political class and stakeholders, which could hinder the zone’s social, economic, and political development. They advocated for a comprehensive dialogue to give the initiative a clear direction.
Meanwhile, the Ndokwa Renaissance group warned that if Senator Nwoko fails to withdraw the bill, they will mobilize the people of Delta North to recall him and institute legal action. They argued that Delta North has always been part of the South-South region and that joining the South-East would expose them to violent agitation for secession and heightened insecurity.
