CP orders detention of policeman over unlawful shooting

As part of the disciplinary measures to maintain the service rules of the Nigeria police, the Commissioner of Police, on receipt of the sad news, immediately ordered the arrest and detention of the errant police officer identified as lucky, a police inspector.

Congress gathered that the shooting incident allegedly occurred 5/12/2023 at about 1634hours at Ekrerhavwe Junction, Agbarho, while on stop and search duty.

This is according to a statement signed by the state police public relations officer, DSP Bright Edafe on Tuesday.

The CP also directed that the officer be immediately transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Asaba for a thorough and speedy investigation.

He commiserated with the injured victim, wishing him a speedy recovery. He also noted that the Force, being a disciplined organization, would not condone such cruel action by any member of the Force, assuring that the offending officer would be subjected to internal disciplinary measures including criminal prosecution.

CP Abass, therefore appealed to members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them justice would not just be done but would be seen to have been done.
