The Senior Special Assistant to the governor of Delta State Comrade Daniel Ezekiel who is equally an indigene of Edo state has appreciated the governor of the state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for flagging off the construction of Udo-Inikorogha-Ofunama road as earlier promised during his reelection campaigns in 2020.

The SSA also thanked High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo for reposing confidence in him when he assured him(Tompolo) of the governor’s resolve to construct the said road when he led some Ijaw leaders to visit him at Oporoza community in 2020.

Ezekiel said Obaseki had fulfilled part of his promises for flagging off the construction of the Udo-Inikorogha-Ofunama road which would link over 250 communities to the upland in the state.

He explained that this particular road is of great concern to Tompolo and riverine dwellers in Edo state, adding that when he led the team of Ijaw leaders to visit Tompolo in 2020 to seek his support for Obaseki second term bid, Tompolo’s condition was if Obaseki would construct the Udo-inikotogha- Ofunama road he would support him.

According to Daniel, he assured Tompolo of Obaseki constructing the road, hence Tompolo gave his support and through Tompolo’s strong support, PDP won all the polling units in the Riverine communities in the state.

The statement reads partly: “In the course of the campaigns for Obaseki’s second term, I led Ijaws from riverine areas to meet Tompolo to seek his support 3 times.
When we met him, he said only on one condition he would support Obaseki, except If he would be assured that Obaseki would construct Udo-inikotogha- Ofunama road because the road is very important to him as it will link the upland to the riverine communities which comprised of over 250 communities.

“On this premise, Tompolo and the entire Ijaws in Ovia southwest, Ovia North East, and Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Areas massively voted for Obaseki and he won.

“The flag-off of the Udo-Inikorogha-Ofunama road shows great commitment on the part of the governor. It is a clear indication that he has fulfilled part of his promises. We are optimistic that the road will be prioritized and will be given due attention. By the grace of God, the road will receive adequate funding. I am glad Obaseki did not disappoint me. Most especially the assurance I gave to my father Tompolo has been partly fulfilled.

“The governor who is nicknamed ‘WAKE AND sees’ on 24/01/2023 kicked off the clearing, grading, and filling of the road. This brings enthusiasm, joy, and celebration among our people,” he added.

Daniel also gave further assurance that Obaseki would construct more roads and other major infrastructures in the state before leaving office.

He further appealed to the Ijaws in the state to give him all their support to enable him to bring development to every riverine community in the state.
