Delta Police Arraign 30 Suspects Arrested in Asaba Intelligence-Led Raid

The Delta State Police Command has arraigned 30 suspects arrested during an intelligence-led crime prevention and enforcement operation carried out across identified criminal black spots within the Asaba metropolis.

The suspects were among 202 persons apprehended during the operation conducted on Saturday, July 4, 2026. The raid, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, was based on credible intelligence generated by the State Intelligence Department (SID) and targeted identified black spots, brothels, and suspected illicit drug dens in Asaba and surrounding communities.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, preliminary investigations led to the unconditional release of 172 suspects after they were screened and found not to have committed any offence warranting prosecution.

The police disclosed that one suspect, Prince Chizoba Ojokwu, 63, proprietor of Prince Tarvan 50 Brothel, was arraigned before the Asaba Magisterial District Court for allegedly permitting his premises to be used as a brothel and procuring women and girls for prostitution, offences punishable under Sections 224 and 223 of the Criminal Code Law of Delta State.

The remaining 29 suspects were also arraigned on charges bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that all lawful arrests are followed by thorough investigations and prosecution where sufficient evidence exists.

The Police Commissioner also warned operators of criminal hideouts, brothels, and other unlawful establishments to desist from activities capable of undermining public peace and security, stressing that the Command will sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at ridding Delta State of criminal elements and enhancing public safety.
