Edo: Gelegele-Gbene Community Celebrates Installation of 47th Amaokosuwei

On July 3, 2024, the ancient Ijaw community of Gelegele-Gbene in Olodiama Kingdom of Edo State witnessed a momentous occasion as Alaowei Benson Ogouyinbo was installed as the 47th Amaokosuwei, the oldest man in the community. The event was marked by vibrant cultural displays, traditional masquerade performances, and festive splendor.
High Chief Alabo Nengi James, 2nd Vice Chairman of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), presided over the ceremony, which took place at the community’s playground. Notable attendees included Chief Robinson Ogunkoru, HRM Godwin Ogouyinbo, and Sir Dr. BJ Braie, among others.
In his address, Chief Alabo Nengi James applauded the community’s commitment to preserving Ijaw culture and protecting their land, affirming that the Ijaw nation stands firmly with Gelegele. Comrade Olu-Derimon Omaghomi, Chairman of the Community, expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the event’s success.
The ceremony showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Gelegele-Gbene people and reinforced their connection to the Olodiama Kingdom. The installation of Alaowei Benson Ogouyinbo as the 47th Amaokosuwei marks a significant milestone in the community’s history.
