Former Niger Delta freedom Fighter Sunny Clark dies, funeral rites slated August 4

Renowned Niger Delta ex-agitator, one of the founding fathers of Meinbutus, Sunny Clark has died in Warri, Delta State on Saturday.
He died following a protracted illness after several medical attentions failed.

This is according to a brief statement issued by the pioneer National President of the Meinbutus and also an ex-warlord, Comrade Ebis Moni on Monday.

The statement reads, ”Today is a sad day for Ijaw nation, INC, IYC and the Meinbutus as one of our heroes, Commander Sunny Clark is dead. He died on 23rd July 2023 after a brief illness in a private hospital in Warri. We missed him so much as his contributions towards the progress and development of the Niger Delta region and Ijaw nation are unforgettable.

He said, “Late Commander Sunny Clark was among the Ijaw warriors who fought and brought about the establishment of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Niger Delta Ministry (NDM) and ex-president Jonathan Goodluck presidency and a lot more which hundreds of Ijaw youths laid down their lives. In this case, many communities were bombed during the gun battle with federal troops. That late Sunny Clark was a hero.

“Sunny Clark was the pioneer spokesman of Meinbutus, an armed group that initiated the armed struggle of Niger Delta Emancipation in the late 90s after the era of the Late Isaac Boro. He hailed from the Enekorogha community in Burutu LGA of Delta state. He is survived by a wife and children,” he eulogises.

The statement disclosed that the late ex-commander Sunny Clark would be given heroic burial rites in his home town on the 4th of August 2023, adding that the deceased hero would be given all honours and rituals as a former Ijaw warrior.
