How UNIBEN lecturer raped female student in office

A lecturer in the Department of English and Literature, Faculty of Arts, University of Benin has allegedly raped a female student in his office.

Congress gathered that the lecturer raped the 400-level student when she visited the office to submit her final year project.

It was learnt the lecturer locked in the office for several hours and allegedly raped her.

The incident which occurred in October 5, became known in the public when a video of the scene where the lecturer was begging for forgiveness went viral.

A fellow course mate of the female student briefed newsmen that the video and the news of the alleged rape was first circulated on the class WhatsApp platform.

He said, “The news of the incident was first reported on our class WhatsApp group. A video was posted which showed the lecturer pleading for forgiveness and regretting his action.

“The lady was able to contact an unnamed friend, who with UNIBEN’s security operatives, rescued her. The lecturer was arrested by UNIBEN’s security officials, taken to the university’s administrative block and questioned.”

But attempt to reach out to the victim for comment failed.

When contacted, the Edo State Police Command’s PPRO, SP Kantoong Bello said he only read the incident online but it has not been officially reported to the police.
