The Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative (IPDI) has urged Niger Delta ex-agitators, civil society organizations (CSOs), and youths to withdraw from the planned nationwide protest, citing concerns of hijacking it by common enemies. “These enemies aim to cause fresh hostility, blackmail regional leaders, and exploit the protest for their own gain”, the group averred.

IPDI uncovered a campaign of calumny against the region, fueled by interest groups for the pipeline surveillance jobs. The organization stressed that the protest’s genuine intention has been misplaced by ulterior motives, warning that the region must not be turned into a battlefield by enemies and strangers.

Expressing worry about potential violence and instability, IPDI emphasised the need for caution and restraint. They urged stakeholders to prioritize peace and dialogue, advocating for alternative channels of engagement to address grievances and promote development in the Niger Delta.

IPDI’s appeal seeks to prevent potential chaos and protect the region’s interests. By withdrawing from the protest, they hope to avoid detrimental actions and promote constructive dialogue.
