Nigeria Doesn’t Need Nationwide Protest Now – Dennis Otuaro
By: Stephen Asaba-ase
Dr. Dennis Otuaro, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), has expressed his opinion that a nationwide protest is not necessary at this time. He believes that the current structural reforms and cushioning interventions put in place by the federal government are the right steps to get the nation out of its challenges.
Otuaro highlighted the progress made by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, including reducing external debt, increasing external reserves, and implementing measures to address economic challenges. He emphasized that the government’s efforts should be allowed to yield results, rather than being distracted by protests.
He warned that previous protests were hijacked, leading to unrest, property destruction, and the release of dangerous criminals. Otuaro appealed to ex-agitators not to participate in protests and not to allow themselves to be used for political scores or destruction of government infrastructure.
He concluded by quoting Sextus Empiricus, “The mills of God grind slow, but they grind exceedingly sure,” emphasizing that radical changes may be uncomfortable but can lead to a better future for Nigeria.
