During a Christian community event, George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, expressed his financial struggles and inability to pay each of his four drivers a monthly salary of 100,000 Naira. He attributed this difficulty to ongoing discussions regarding an increase in the minimum wage, which is being debated by a tripartite committee.

The committee is currently addressing two important issues: the challenges associated with implementing wage hikes and the broader economic pressures at play. Akume presents a compelling argument in support of these points.

The government’s engagement with various stakeholders, including the Christian community, emphasizes the need for cooperation and understanding as they navigate the current budgetary constraints.
