Abia State workers have vowed to join the nationwide strike on Monday, in solidarity with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), over the delayed implementation of a new national minimum wage and the recent electricity tariff hike.

The NLC chairman in Abia state, Ogbonnaya Okoro, confirmed that the union will mobilize its members over the weekend and join the strike on Monday, as directed.

He emphasized that the union will follow due process and convene an emergency meeting on Monday to ensure a smooth strike action.

The national minimum wage bill was supposed to be signed into law by former President Muhammadu Buhari in April 2019, but its implementation has been delayed, prompting the planned strike.
