JUST IN: FG STOPS UNDER 18 FROM WASSCE, NECO EXAMS
By Stephen Asaba-ase
The Federal Government has directed the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to enforce an 18-year age requirement for candidates wishing to take their exams.
Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced this on Channels Television’s ‘Sunday Politics’ program, stating that the age limit is not a new policy, but a reminder of an existing one.
Mamman explained that the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) age limit remains 18 years, and JAMB will no longer admit students under 18 starting next year.
He emphasised that the policy aims to ensure students complete the requisite number of years in each level of study before taking exams.
NECO and WAEC will no longer allow underage children to write their examinations, and students must spend the required number of years in each level of study to be eligible.
