Just In: Lawan buries mother in Yobe

The former Senate President Ahmad Lawan has put his late mother, Hajiya Halima (Baba) Ibrahim, to final rest in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State on Sunday.

The 9th Senate’s president, Godswill Akpabio, and his deputy, Barau Jibrin, also extended their sympathy over the passing of Hajiya Ibrahim, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 86 at her home in Gashua town.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Senator Lawan’s special media adviser, Ezrel Tabiowo, noted that the body was buried before being interred in the Gashua Central Cemetery.

The statement said that Imam Ahmad Talba of the Gashua Central Mosque conducted Islamic funeral rites.

He posited that Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno State, Idi Barde Gubana, the deputy governor of Yobe State, and Rt. Hon. Chiroma Mashio, the speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, all took part in the ceremony.

However, thousands of constituents from Senator Lawan’s Yobe North Senatorial District, as well as mourners from far and wide attended the funeral ceremony on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno State, Idi Barde Gubana, the deputy governor of Yobe State, and Rt. Hon. Chiroma Mashio, the speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, were among the dignitaries in attendance.

Emirs and traditional chiefs, as well as Senators Babangida Hussaini (APC – Jigawa North West) and Kaka Shehu Lawan (APC – Borno Central), as well as sitting Commissioners with the Yobe State Government, Hon. Usman Zannah, were also present.
