JUST IN: NLC Officials Attacked by Thugs in Jos While Enforcing Strike
By Stephen Asaba-ase
In Jos, the capital of Plateau State, thugs attacked members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) who were enforcing the ongoing indefinite strike. The strike, which began on Monday, was called by the NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC) over the federal government’s failure to adopt the proposed minimum wage of N494,000.
According to Sunday Ayodele, Vice Chairman of NLC in Plateau, while attempting to enforce the strike at a private transport company, NLC members were mistaken for members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and attacked by touts. The incident left four NLC members injured and requiring hospitalization.
The attack was reportedly related to a pre-existing dispute between the transport company and NURTW Jos. Security agencies intervened to restore calm, and the NLC enforcement team withdrew from the park to maintain peace.
