JUST IN: Senate reverses suspension of Ahmed Ningi
By Sunday Onye, senior correspondent
The Senate has lifted the suspension of Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, and welcomed him back to the chamber.
Ningi was suspended for three months on March 12, 2024, after accusing the Senate of budget padding.
Following a motion by Deputy Minority Leader Sen. Abba Moro, who apologised on Ningi’s behalf, the recall process was initiated.
Sen. Moro took full responsibility for Ningi’s actions, acknowledging the severity of the suspension. During his suspension, Ningi’s conduct was closely examined and debated by the legislative body.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised Ningi’s contributions, calling him a valuable member of the Senate, and stressed that the decision to reinstate him transcends religious and ethnic lines.
