Kwara police apprehend 14 suspects for murder, armed robbery

The commissioner of the Kwara State Police,Victor Olaiya has paraded 14 suspected offenders who had been detained for a variety of offenses across the State on Wednesday.

Five of the individuals were detained on suspicion of armed robbery, while others were detained on suspicion of crimes related to cults.

Olaiya named three of the robbery suspects who robbed a female at Egbejila in Ilorin as Abdulsalam, Nurudeen Saka, and Segun Tata while parading the alleged offenders at the state police headquarters in Ilorin.

The CP said, one Opadiran Yetunde (f) of Oke-Jia, Egbejila area, Ilorin, the state capital, reported the alleged robbery occurrence on 09/05/2023 at around 1600 hours.

Opadiran explained that at around 01:15 on August 5, 2023, four armed men broke into her home and stole iPhones and jewelry worth N2 million, forced her to transfer N1.5 million to an account, and stole her White model Toyota Corolla, which was worth N6.672 million.

Following an investigation into the crime, the trio was apprehended and the vehicle was found in Badagry, Lagos State.

The police commissioner revealed that during questioning, the three suspects who had been detained admitted to the crime and named Biodun Abolade Ojo, also known as Abbey, Ibikunle Shola, also known as Showboy, and Morufu Oyekanmi, who are all currently at large, as members of their group.

However, on October 15, 2023, vigilant police officers conducting a stop and search operation along the Eiyekonrin/Ogbomoso route came across Biodun Abolade and his cronies in a commercial truck. When they were examined, two war axes were discovered on them.

“During intensive interrogation, the three suspects confessed to be a syndicate coming from Ibadan and Osun State to commit series of robbery attacks, including robbing the earlier mentioned complainant, Opadiran at Egbejila area and others within and around Ilorin, snatching vehicles and other valuables,” the police commissioner added.

Two other alleged notorious armed robbery suspects, Jamiu Idowu Aje, ‘aka Ijoba’ and Shittu Sheriff, ‘aka Abule’ were also arrested.

The CP said they were arrested by a CID team in conjunction with members of the vigilante in Ilorin with one cut-to size English made double barrel gun, one expended cartridge and one blue-coloured unregistered Jincheng motorcycle.

“Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to a series of robbery operations, including the one that happened on 26/09/2023 at Isale-Koto of Ilorin, where one Afeez Babatunde was killed.

“The gang also escaped with three motorcycles they used in killing two rival cultists, Gafar and Tunde along the Gambari area of Ilorin metropolis,” he added.

Police officers from the ‘D’ Police Division, Adewole, Ilorin also detained three further alleged cultists, Ahmed Umar, alias Hollybea, Tunde Olarewaju Usman, and Kudus Ajao Okin.

Toheeb of the Omoda area, Ilorin, KC of the Soj street, Sawmill area of Ilorin, and the third victim was mauled to death at Lanre-Gada area, Sobi Road, also in the Ilorin metropolis, according to Olaiya’s disclosure that one of the suspects, Tunde Olarewaju, confessed to being an Aiye confraternity member and was responsible for the killing of three members of the Eiye cult were murdered: Toheeb in the Omoda neighborhood in Ilorin, KC in the Sawmill neighborhood of Ilorin, and the third victim was mauled to death in the Lanre-Gada neighborhood on Sobi Road, also in the Ilorin city.
