By Stephen Asaba-ase
The Parents of boarding school students at Eva Adelaja Girls Grammar School in Bariga has protested against the recent outrageous increase in feeding fees from N35,000 to N100,000
The protest witnessed a large group of parents storming the school on sunday chanting that the governor should immediately return the fee to increase its normal state, adding that they would keep their wards at home until their demands are met.
Meanwhile, the parents wept that the situation is getting out of hand, emphasizing that, the increment is getting too much “We can’t afford this money and our children need to go back to school.”
However, Surv. Dapo Dawodu, who is the current chairman of the parent Forum, described the increment as “mindless and provocative” and accused the Lagos State Ministry of Education of “unguarded greed.”
Dawodu stated that the new fee translates to N100 million in the school principal’s purse to feed the children within three months, compared to the previous N35 million.
The parents also suggested a Feeding & Welfare Analysis arrangement in February 2024 to the ministry, which they said is faultless.
The Forum also stressed that Lagos State’s free education policy should be incorporated into the boarding school programs based on the current economic crisis.
In a final note, they concluded that their children will remain at home until the “obnoxious decision” is fully addressed.”
