Nigerian Navy, NNDelta, has set in flames a boat laden with local refined petroleum products in Warri River, Delta state on Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a Niger Delta rights activist Comrade Ozobo Austin has condemned outrightly the burning of petroleum products on the environment by security operatives.

The boat was reportedly caught in transporting locally refined petroleum products to Warri in the Tuesday’s early morning when it was arrested by men of Nigeria Navy.

Our source said the Navy set the boat on fire in the Warri River this afternoon, causing heavy explosion and palpable apprehension in the area.

Comrade Ozobo Austin when contacted condemned the burning of crude or petroleum products by security operatives, considering the economy value of the product and the enormous implications it reposed on the environment.

The activist said the Navy and other security operatives burning crude on the open river, residential areas and forests were the major enemies of the Niger Delta environment.

According to him, the security operatives were causing more damage to the country’s environment and eco-system through the uncivilized approach adopted in fighting bunkery activities in the country.

Ozobo urged security operatives in the Niger Delta to stop further polluting the environment, adding that government at all levels should prevail on them and punish any security operative caught in burning seized crude on the environment.
