N’Delta CSOs, Youths, Ex-Agitators Pull Out of Nationwide Protest

By Peters Monday, Abuja
In a surprise move, the Coalition of Niger Delta Civil Society Organisations (CNDCSO), youths, and ex-agitators from the region have announced their withdrawal from the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1st.
The decision was made after a series of meetings and consultations with stakeholders, including traditional leaders, community elders, and respected personalities from the Niger Delta.
According to a statement released by the national coordinator of the protest Niger Delta, Comrade Combolous Timipre, and General John Tommy for the ex-agitators cited concerns about the potential hijacking of the protest by external forces with ulterior motives, which could lead to violence and destabilization in the region.
The statement also emphasised the need for constructive engagement and dialogue with the government to address the region’s grievances, rather than resorting to protests that may not yield the desired results.
Ex-agitators from the region, who had initially supported the protest, also announced their withdrawal, citing the need to prioritise peace and stability in the Niger Delta.
Youth leaders from the region, who had been mobilizing support for the protest, also pulled out, saying they did not want to be part of any action that could lead to chaos and destruction.
The withdrawal of the Niger Delta CSOs, youths, and ex-agitators from the protest is seen as a significant development, as the region has been a hotbed of activism and agitation in recent years.
The move is also seen as a boost to the government’s efforts to maintain peace and stability in the country, ahead of the planned protest.
