Nigerian Military Reports Progress in Counter-Terrorism Efforts

The Nigerian military has announced significant progress in its counter-terrorism operations, with 204 suspected terrorists arrested, 108 eliminated, and 214 hostages rescued across the country within one week.

 

According to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, a total of 622 terrorists surrendered to troops during the week, including 90 adult males, 182 adult females, and 350 children.

 

The military also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including assorted weapons, explosives, and vehicles. Additionally, troops neutralized terrorists, arrested suspects, and rescued kidnapped hostages in various operations across the country.

 

In the North East, troops attached to Operation Hadin Kai neutralized 47 terrorists, arrested 18 suspects, and rescued 130 kidnapped hostages. The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai also conducted an air interdiction at a newly uncovered terrorist hideout and IED factory in the Mandara Mountains.

 

In the North Central, troops attached to Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke neutralized 13 insurgents, apprehended 57 violent extremists, and rescued 36 kidnapped hostages. In the South-South, troops recovered stolen crude oil, illegally refined products, and destroyed illegal refining sites.

 

The military also reported progress in the South East, with troops attached to Operation UDO KA neutralizing five terrorists, arresting 12 violent extremists, and rescuing four kidnapped hostages.

 

All recovered items, arrested suspects, and rescued hostages were handed over to the relevant authorities for further action.
