Police Arrest 55 Protesters Over Alleged Vandalism, Looting

Dutse, Jigawa State – The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 55 protesters in connection with the vandalism and looting of private and government properties during Thursday’s protest, which left two people dead and many others injured.

According to DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, state police spokesman, the protesters were arrested for various offenses, including trespassing, arson, vandalism, and theft.

The recovered items from the protesters include 35 motorcycles, 3 tricycles, 12 bicycles, 111 bags of fertilizer, chairs, and 40 cartons of mosquito nets.

The suspects are accused of:

– Trespassing at the Hadejia LG Secretariat
– Setting fire to six parked vehicles
– Vandalizing JASCO stores
– Stealing fertilizer and foodstuffs in Gumel LG
– Setting fire to the house of National Assembly member Hon. Nazifi Sani
– Vandalizing the NITDA office
– Looting the APC state secretariat and setting it ablaze

DSP Shiisu confirmed that the suspects will be taken to court for prosecution.

This development comes after Thursday’s protest turned violent, resulting in the loss of lives and properties. The police have assured that they will do everything possible to maintain law and order in the state.
