Police dock 94 sex workers, nab 59 suspected robbers, cultists in Delta

The Police operatives in Delta State Command have arraigned 94 suspected commercial sex workers in courts and arrested 59 suspects involved in robbery, cult and kidnapping-related offences in stop-and-search operations in Ughelli, Warri and other parts of the state.

The Delta State police PPRO, Bright Edafe confirmed the report, adding that some arrested robbery, cult and kidnapping suspects have been transferred to Asaba, the state headquarters for further investigations.

According to him, the suspects were apprehended when police officers raided some identified criminal rendezvous at Evwreni, East-West Road, and other black spots all in Ughelli North Local Area.

Edafe narrated, “Sequel to the reoccurring criminal activities of kidnappers, armed robbers in Ughelli, Warri and other parts of the state, the Deputy Commissioner of Police operations (DCP), Johnson Adenola, directed that massive raids be carried out in the affected areas.

“Consequently, on May 1, 2023, operatives drawn from the Command’s operations department, SIB, Dragon Patrol, Safer Highway, Raiders, CP D-Coy squad, Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and led by the Commander Dragon Patrol, Graham Imade, were deployed to the affected areas to effect their arrest,” he added.

Items recovered included; three pump action guns, one locally made cut-to-size gun, one dagger, 10 live cartridges, one suspected stolen unregistered Toyota Venza, one unregistered Mercedes Benz, one Peugeot car with registration number KJA 98 GE, nine cups of loud, codeine syrup, sachets of swivel, 20 capsules of tramadol and 31 wraps of weed suspected to be Cannabis sativa.

Edafe who reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the protection of life and property, urged the team to sustain the tempo and ensure sanity is completely restored in the state.

He, therefore, advised the public to provide useful information that will help the police in the fight against crime and criminality across the state.
