Policeman killed in a checkpoint attack in Bayelsa

One policeman was feared dead and others were seriously injured in a gunmen attack on a police checkpoint on Saturday.

The incident reportedly occurred at Banga camp, a suburb of the Famgbe community in Yenagoa Local Government Area.

It was gathered the gunmen stormed the Police team which was on stop and search operations following an increase in violent crimes in the state.

A policeman was killed, another injured and a child was hit by a stray bullet during the counter gun duel with the attackers.

A police source said the gunmen escaped into the bush with bullet wounds, and the police have launched a manhunt for them.
