Following the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s abrupt removal of petroleum subsidy, the National Union of Electricity Employees ( NUEE ) has instructed its members to stop their services across the country.

According to a release signed by Dominic Igwebike, the Union secretary, he urged the members to comply with the new directive and stop distributing power across Nigeria.

Recall, more hardship welcomed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administration immediately after he pronounced that he was going to remove the subsidy during his Inauguration speech on May 29, 2023.

Following the pronouncement of the removal of petroleum subsidy by the newly elected president, the National Petroleum Company Limited ( NNPCL ) directs all petroleum marketers to increase pump price ranges from N500 – N650.

However, the Nigeria Labour Union ( NLC ) disagrees with the new directive and declared a nationwide protest, following NNPCL to revert the pump price which has caused more hardship in the country.

However, the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, maintained that its plan to go on strike was a result of the sudden removal of petroleum subsidy by the president.

The withdrawal of service was said to commence on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
